June 2018 Construction Program Update
Inside Zachry Engineering Education Complex
In about 10 weeks, the doors to the new Zachry Engineering Education Complex (ZACH) will open. As crews finish furniture and equipment installations, our IT staff is working on connectivity and technology testing. Faculty and staff will begin moving into ZACH in late July. Here’s a peek inside of this outstanding facility.
Address
The physical address for the Zachry Engineering Education Complex is: 125 Spence Street, College Station, TX 77843. Mail stops for offices located in ZACH will remain the same.
Open Office Concept
The ZACH will offer a modern, high-tech and collaborative environment. Its design is open concept with glass walls and flexible office spaces. This extends throughout the facility, from the classrooms and labs to the office suites. An open-office environment has few walls and workstations are located together. Office suites will be comprised largely of cubicles to foster collaboration and teamwork.
Attention Faculty: ZACH Technology Clinic
Technology training sessions for faculty who will be teaching in the ZACH this fall will be held on July 5, 11, 18 and 25, and Aug. 1 from 2-4 p.m. in ETB 2026. Registration for one of these sessions is required: register here. Workshops will be offered in August and throughout the fall for faculty who will be teaching in the building in the spring semester. Contact Sunay Palsole for additional information.
Engineering is Art. Art is Engineering.
The College of Engineering is integrating an art program within the ZACH that will encourage creativity and innovation and promote cross-disciplinary initiatives in education and research. Ten works of art created by visionary artists who conceptually draw inspiration from science, technology, engineering and mathematics will be located throughout the building.
Wayfinding App Coming Soon
To help students and guests navigate the 525,000-square-foot building, a new wayfinding app will soon be available called EngiNEAR ME. Users will be able to view floor plans and/or enter in the room number they are searching for and the app will provide the best route to get there. The app will be launched in mid-August right before Howdy Week, and will be promoted on social media and available soon on the website.
Outdoor Gathering Spaces
Gathering and collaboration spaces will be featured inside and outside of the beautiful new facility.
